Global surgery post-op visits reporting

CMS Require Global Surgery Reporting for Post-Op Visits Effective July 01, 2017 from 9 States CMS now require providers who are part of a group practice with 10 or more providers; and are practicing in the State of Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon and Rhode Island to report CPT Code 99024 to indicate a post-operative visit during a 10-days or 90-days global surgical periods. This is required for surgeries performed on and after July 1st 2017.
Reporting Process for Post-Operative Visits CPT Code 99024
  • Reporting is only required for post-operative encounters during the global surgical periods with the dates of service on or after July 1st 2017;
  • Report the post operative encounters through the usual submission of your claims;
  • Modifiers and Time Units are NOT required;
  • You can add the CPT Code 99024 several times on the claim if the services rendered are within the applicable range of dates;
  • Reporting is ONLY required if Medicare is Primary Payer and is traditional fee for service Medicare patients.
Qualifying Post-Surgical Visits and Place of Service:
  • All Follow-up visits during the global surgical period (10-days or 90-days); post-operative services provided must be related with the original surgery;
  • Place of service: (Hospitals, SNF, Physician Offices and Outpatient Clinics);
  • If patients are at an eligible originating site, Telehealth encounters must also be reported.
